I’m writing a book and I don’t care that I don’t know what i’m doing

Okay, I kinda care that I don’t know what i’m doing, but hey.

So, basically, i’ve started writing a book. Fiction. Fantasy. Blood. 🩸

It’s a pretty scary experience writing when you don’t have the credentials or qualifications to do so. Ever since I was little I was writing though. The grammar has never been perfect nor have I had a fleshed-out vocabulary but i’ve always wanted to be a storyteller - I think that’s what drew me to film.

The first stories that I remember writing were rip-offs. I was probably 7 or 8 at the time.

- Wild Wasp - a kinda Spider-man like hero who could fire stings and fly. The stings would catch the criminals clothing and pin them to walls.

- Veek Asakura - a definite copy of Zeke Asakura and Amidamaru from Shaman King.

- I even wrote the outline for a fantasy book called the Emperor of Demeena - an obvious copy of Lord of the Rings. I made a map and introduced were-spiders and hawkmen and other random stuff. I think I was watching Flash Gordon at the time and thought they could jell well together.

And what I’m writing now could be seen as a rip-off. It’s definitely influenced by what I’ve seen. I’m treading that line of inspiration to imitation. However, I’m not too scared. I may not be a very good writer. I may not have the tools to make something commercially successful. That doesn’t really matter to me. I have stories to tell - and they may be daft, or stupid, or derivative - but I’m excited to tell them.
